How do people make money from blogging?

I know that there are probably millions of bloggers out there. I also know that there a small percentage of them make money from blogging. Does anyone out there do this, (make money from blogging) and how do they do it?

Now someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe that the bloggers are payed through advertisements on the site. The more popular the blog becomes, the more companies want to advertise on it, and they pay the blogger
